The County of San Diego is committed to providing greater assistance to people struggling with mental health issues. More than $54 million has been added to this year’s budget for Behavioral Health Services, along with dozens of new positions and investments throughout the county. But, as a visit with the caring and compassionate staff at the County’s Psychiatric Hospital shows, treating mental illness is an extremely complex process and funding is just one of the many challenges.
